Overview

This program is a practical and interactive way to improve your English for the workplace. This course is built around the communication needs of service professionals. Focusing on English specifically for managers or employees wanting to become managers, this course will provide you with opportunities to improve your conversational and written English and expand your vocabulary in relation to your workplace. Topics will include: pronunciation practice, management-related vocabulary, interacting with your co-workers, conducting interviews in English, training and giving instructions, coaching employees, and conversations with customers. The course also explores topics and theory related to Leadership and reflecting on your own personal Leadership style. 

Curriculum

  • Strengthen listening and speaking skills for interviewing potential employees, customer conversations, training and coaching, scheduling and giving instructions
  • Develop conversational skills for formal and informal work conversations
  • Increase understanding and application of vocabulary in the workplace
  • Practicing the grammar of prepositions, articles, question formation, verb tenses and written sentence structure
  • Learning how to write a process essay
  • Improve speaking and listening skills through analyzing authentic spoken English and responding to prompts through video and audio.
  • Increase vocabulary related to management and leadership
  • Examine topics in Leadership such as the characteristics of a good leader, trust, empathy, and effective listening.
  • Improve speaking and pronunciation through practicing correct pronunciation of vowels and other commonly difficult sounds, syllable stress and sentence stress.

Cost

With financial aid, Guild students may be eligible to pay a fraction of the published cost to advance their education.

Many Guild students pay as little as 10% of the published cost of the course by taking advantage of:
  • Tuition assistance benefits from your employer.
  • The $2,500 American Opportunity Tax Credit and/or $2,000 Lifetime Learning Credit.
  • Guild's tuition discount, and no out-of-state tuition costs.

Schedule

You take this course online, at your own speed. In addition to your self-paced materials, you will also participate in live, virtual sessions for one hour each week with peers and an instructor. You will receive support from your personal coach and a lead instructor - both are committed to your success.
