Overview

Do you know some basic phrases for your everyday interactions, but want practice with English relevant to your daily life? Are you looking to learn the necessary vocabulary and phrases for when you need to visit the license branch, post office, interact with teachers in your children’s schools, go shopping, talk to the bank, visit the doctor or any other government services? Then this course is for you!

This course is designed to build confidence, increase your vocabulary, and help you to practice common conversations for the types of interactions listed above.  By completing this course, you will empower yourself to be able to complete these everyday interactions with confidence and knowledge.

Note: This course is designed for students who already have some basic and beginning English. 

Curriculum

By the end of this program, you will have:

  • Strengthened your listening and speaking skills for everyday interactions with native English speakers.
  • An increased understanding and application of vocabulary used at schools, shopping, banking, visiting the doctor, mailing packages at the post office or other government agencies.
  • Practiced initiating and concluding conversations on the phone.
  • Learned about American customs and etiquette.

Cost

With financial aid, Guild students may be eligible to pay a fraction of the published cost to advance their education.  

Many Guild students pay as little as 10% of the published cost of the course by taking advantage of:

  • The $2,500 American Opportunity Tax Credit and/or $2,000 Lifetime Learning Credit.

Schedule

Guild's courses are designed to support the needs of working adults.

You take this course online, at your own speed. In addition to your self-paced materials, you will also participate in live, virtual sessions for one hour each week with peers and an instructor. You will receive support from your personal coach and a lead instructor - both are committed to your success.
